Divine Fire vs. Human Desire

This week for our Faith and Film discussion we watched The Adjustment Bureau. This movie is entertaining and also provides excellent themes to ponder.

One of the biggest issues it brings up is the belief that God’s will is in competition with human free will.

Is this true? Does God desire for us those things we do not want to do? Is God bent on making our life miserable?

I found this clip to be helpful (warning, spoiler alert)

As I think about who God is, and who he longs for us to be, I have to imagine that a life lived for Christ presses me into freedom, not slavery. I think this is the message behind Galatians 5.

But it sure seems to me that a lot of people believe God ruins life for the sake of getting what he wants – not for the sake of making us more and more into his image. And that is where the difficulty lies…

Did God predestine you for salvation against your will? Or can you choose?

    God wanted to be loved,
so He gave us the freedom
    to choose. Either way,
    He loves us still.
    We’re not done.

    Peace, UT
